Distance and requested service
Different postal codes can produce different services and charges. Compare the same parcel across your usual destinations rather than extrapolating a rate between two major cities to the entire country.
Measure the packed parcel
Weigh and measure the box after packing. Depending on the service, billing may use dimensional weight and minimums. Reducing an unnecessarily large box can change the rate, but do not compromise protection of the contents.
Read fees and exclusions
Check fuel, remote-area, residential, oversize, signature and pickup charges. Counter drop-off does not automatically remove a surcharge tied to the destination address.
Compare on an equal basis
Request quotes with the same postal codes, handover date, packed dimensions, weight and options. Record the exact service, estimated date, included charges and exclusions. A carrier comparison is not a measurement of on-time performance.
There is no universal price winner. Compare the total for the parcel, including applicable fees and account terms. Weight alone or a carrier’s reputation does not establish which will be cheaper.
Check the amount actually paid
Then compare the invoice with the quote and ask about adjustments. To measure savings, retain a comparable baseline and the same scope of charges. An advertised discount or calculation example is not your shipment result.
