Canadian Shipping Rate Index
A fixed basket of 10 Canadian and cross-border lanes, re-quoted through the same rate engine every quarter. The prices below are the real cheapest quotes returned on the sampling date — none of them are estimates.

Methodology
Where do the prices come from?
From our own public rate engine, at the standard new-account rate with no volume commitment. Each lane is quoted with the same postal codes, the same weight and the same box in every edition.
Which price is recorded?
The cheapest quote returned for that lane at that moment, whichever carrier wins it. The winning carrier can therefore change between quarters — that is a finding of the index, not a flaw in it.
Taxes and duties?
Excluded. Prices are before tax and before customs duties, so domestic and cross-border lanes stay comparable with each other and over time.
Does the basket change?
No. The 10 lanes are fixed. Adding, dropping or re-routing a lane would make editions incomparable, so published editions are never edited. If a lane returns no quote in a given quarter it is dropped from that edition rather than carrying an old price forward.
What this index does not measure
- It is not a national average. 10 lanes do not represent the whole Canadian market; they are a consistent basket, measured the same way in every edition.
- These are not negotiated rates. A high-volume shipper will pay less than what is shown here; the index tracks what a new account gets with no commitment.
- It is not a quoted price. A quote for your actual shipment depends on its weight, its volume and its exact address.

The basket is re-quoted at the start of each calendar quarter. Earlier editions stay published and unchanged.
