DHL or UPS from Canada? Internationally, both have comparable tiers: early morning, by 10:30 or noon, or end of day. UPS adds a full range within Canada (guaranteed next day through Standard in one to seven business days) and UPS Standard to the U.S. DHL Express has shipped within Canada since May 2025. Compare the same parcel with both.
Two express networks, two strengths
DHL Express is first an international network: according to DHL, it covers more than 220 countries and territories. Since May 2025, according to its Canadian Service Point pages, DHL Express Canada also ships documents and parcels across Canada.
UPS offers a full domestic range in Canada, from guaranteed next day (Express Early, Express, Express Saver) to UPS Standard, plus services to the U.S. and the rest of the world.
International services, tier by tier
| Tier | UPS | DHL Express |
|---|---|---|
| Early morning | Worldwide Express Plus: typically by 8:30 or 9:00 a.m. | Express 9:00: by 9:00, where offered |
| Mid-morning or noon | Worldwide Express: typically by 10:30 a.m. or noon | Express 10:30 and Express 12:00 |
| End of day | Worldwide Express Saver: typically by end of day | Express Worldwide: end of day |
| Less urgent | Worldwide Expedited: day-definite delivery | — |
UPS does not show the same day counts on its page and in its rate guide, and DHL publishes none by destination on its Canadian pages. The real date depends on the route: compare the one each carrier offers for your address.
Within Canada and to the U.S.
Within Canada, UPS publishes its timings: Express Early, Express and Express Saver are guaranteed next business day, Expedited targets the second business day and Standard delivers in one to seven business days. Its 2026 terms of service put the three Express services under the guarantee, where available.
To the U.S., UPS Standard offers day-definite delivery to all addresses in the 48 contiguous states. DHL Express has also shipped within Canada since May 2025, but the Canadian pages checked do not detail the names or timings of its domestic services.
Duties, taxes and brokerage
With DHL Express, duties and taxes are paid by the receiver (DTU) by default; if the shipper selects Duties & Taxes Paid (DTP), they are billed to the shipper’s account. At UPS, the 2026 Canadian rate guide states that its rates to the U.S. exclude customs brokerage fees.
