In Canada, a parcel usually takes from one business day to about ten business days, depending on the service and the route. Express services publish next-business-day delivery; ground services publish ranges such as 1 to 4 days (Canpar Ground), 1 to 7 days (UPS Standard, FedEx Ground) or 4 to 10 days (Canada Post Regular Parcel between major centres).
The transit times each carrier publishes
Here is what each carrier publishes itself for shipments within Canada. These are its standards or estimates, in business days, not a promise for your parcel: the exact route, the handover date and current conditions all count.
| Carrier | Fastest service | Ground or economy service | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Canada Post | Priority: next day between major urban centres | Regular Parcel: 1 to 3 (local) up to 4 to 10 (national) between major centres | Delivery standards |
| UPS | Express Early, Express, Express Saver: guaranteed next business day | Expedited: by the 2nd business day; Standard: 1 to 7 days | UPS domestic services |
| FedEx | First, Priority and Standard Overnight: next business day (most metropolitan areas) | 2Day: 1 to 2; Economy: 1 to 3; Ground: 1 to 7 days | FedEx intra-Canada services |
| Purolator | Express: by end of the next business day to most destinations | Ground: one business day or more, depending on destination | Purolator Service Guide |
| Canpar | Express: next day, guaranteed | Select: 1 to 3; Ground: 1 to 4 days (based on major centres) | Canpar shipping in Canada |
| Nationex | 24-hour delivery in most regions of Quebec and Ontario | 3 to 5 days in the rest of Canada | Nationex delivery services |
| UniUni | Next-day delivery | Up to 7 days | UniUni courier services |
| Intelcom (Dragonfly) | Express Same Day (direct injection only) and Express Next Day | Standard: 2 to 7 days | Intelcom compare services |
| GLS Canada | Express service offered | Ground service; no range published on the pages checked | GLS transit time calculator |
The ranges do not compare word for word: Canada Post counts from the business day after deposit, Canpar bases its figures on major city centres, and UniUni gives a reliable date only once it has the parcel. Remote areas take longer with every carrier.
Canada Post: transit times by distance
Canada Post publishes its standards by distance: local, regional (within the same region) or national (between Canadian regions). The table uses the major urban centres row.
| Service | Local | Regional | National |
|---|---|---|---|
| Priority | Next day | Next day | Next day |
| Xpresspost | Next day | Next day | 2 days |
| Expedited Parcel | 1 to 2 | 1 to 4 | 2 to 8 |
| Regular Parcel | 1 to 3 | 3 to 6 | 4 to 10 |
Outside the major centres and in the North, the standards are longer. Canada Post's delivery standards tool gives the exact standard from the origin and destination postal codes.
When the clock starts
- Canada Post: from the business day after deposit; the mailing day, weekends and statutory holidays do not count.
- UniUni: a parcel dropped off before 12 PM at a UniUni Store or UniUni Point is aimed at next-day delivery, judged on the scan time.
- UniUni and Intelcom mostly deliver for merchants: the date only becomes precise once the parcel reaches the carrier.
Which transit times are guaranteed
| Carrier | Guaranteed services | No guarantee |
|---|---|---|
| Canada Post | Priority, Xpresspost, Expedited Parcel (can be suspended at peak) | Regular Parcel |
| UPS | Express Early, Express, Express Saver, where available | Not stated for Expedited and Standard in the terms checked |
| FedEx | First, Priority and Standard Overnight within Canada (since February 12, 2026) | Other Express and Ground services: guarantee suspended |
| Purolator | Express services; Ground 9AM, 10:30AM and Evening | Standard Ground |
| Canpar | Select, Express and Priority, when the route and service qualify | Not stated for Ground |
Nationex, UniUni, Intelcom and GLS Canada publish no late-delivery refund on the pages checked. A guarantee is claimed under the carrier's terms, usually on request.
How to choose for your deadline
- It must arrive tomorrow: pick a guaranteed next-business-day service and check that it covers the destination postal code.
- You have two or three days: compare the mid-tier services (Xpresspost, UPS Expedited, FedEx 2Day or Economy, Canpar Select).
- Timing barely matters: compare the price of the ground services, knowing that their published range is wider.
- Shipping within Quebec or Ontario: Nationex publishes 24-hour delivery in most regions of both provinces.
- Remote address: check the exact standard with the carrier's tool before promising a date to your customer.
