First filter: a shipment to the US or abroad rules UniUni out, since it is offered on MesColis for Canada only. Start with the destination
The first cut is not made on price. UPS is an international courier network: on MesColis it handles shipments within Canada as well as parcels to the US and abroad. UniUni is a parcel delivery service focused on e-commerce, and our integration offers it only for Canada-to-Canada shipments.
If your parcel is leaving the country, the question is settled: UniUni will not appear in the comparison, and UPS and the other carriers that serve the lane will be in the running instead. The real contest between the two is on your domestic shipments.

Within Canada: check lane coverage
For a domestic shipment, both carriers can be in the running, but coverage is never a given. The two networks do not have the same footprint: check that the lane is served for both of your postal codes, especially in remote areas, rather than inferring it from a carrier's reputation.
Both need an address where the parcel can be handed over. UniUni says it does not deliver to post offices or PO boxes, and UPS generally needs a street address. If your customer gave a PO box, confirm the address with them or use an eligible Canada Post service instead.
Compare rates for the same parcel
There is no universal price winner. The result changes with the postal codes, the actual weight, the packed dimensions, the dimensional weight and the options you choose. Whether a carrier is international or focused on e-commerce says nothing about the price of your parcel.
- Use the same postal codes, weight and packed dimensions for both quotes.
- Compare the total, not the base rate: surcharges, fuel and options add up.
- Record the exact service each carrier offers, not just its name.
- For a multi-box shipment, compare the total for all the boxes, not the price of one.
Transit: read the estimated date
Do not infer transit time from the size of a network or a one-off experience. Check the estimated date shown for the chosen service and both addresses, and account for the day the parcel is actually handed to the carrier. An estimate is not a guarantee: any commitment has its own terms, exclusions and claim procedure.
Rates, transit times, service areas and weekend options change with the service and the account. Nothing in this guide is a commitment from UPS or UniUni: confirm the price and the date at the quote step, for your parcel.
Drop-off or pickup: handing the parcel over
How the parcel is handed over matters as much as price when you ship often. For each of the two carriers, check the pickup or drop-off options available at your address before promising a ship date to your customers.
Either way, print the label before handover and note the cut-off time for your area: a parcel handed over after the cut-off leaves the next business day, which moves the estimated date.
